Removing wisdom teeth even in difficult cases

Only a few hundred years ago, the teeth were ground down so much because of the coarse-grained food that there was enough space for the wisdom teeth. However, because of today's much softer diet, the teeth wear down much less, which is why crowding often makes it difficult or impossible for the wisdom teeth to erupt.
Not all wisdom teeth need to be extracted. However, there are various situations in which the removal of one or more wisdom teeth is unavoidable.

We recommend extracting wisdom teeth if they are difficult to clean due to their position and can therefore develop caries, if they do not erupt completely and an abscess (collection of pus in the cheek) can therefore form, or if an inflammation or cyst in the jawbone can already be detected in an X-ray.
With early clarification, an emergency situation with correspondingly unpleasant accompanying symptoms such as pain, abscess, lockjaw, fever and severe swelling can be avoided.

Depending on the shape, number and position of the roots, the removal of a wisdom tooth can be simple or complex.
In simple situations, the wisdom teeth can be easily extracted.
In more complex situations, the tooth must be surgically removed. In order to show the positional relationship of the tooth roots to anatomical structures such as nerves or blood vessels in advance, we have the possibility in the practice to assess these on the computer using three-dimensional X-ray diagnostics (DVT) if necessary. This facilitates the planning of the surgical intervention and reduces the risks for our patients that important structures will be injured. It also reduces the risk of complications.

Due to the great experience of our dentists in this field, a short operation time is the rule. As a rule, this procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. If desired, the procedure can also be performed under analgosedation or general anaesthesia.
